MTACC hosting Come and Go Chat with local federal election candidates

The Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce is hosting the local federal election candidates – but with a bit of a twist.

Rather than have a traditional forum or debate format, the chamber opted to have a more informal setting.

The “Coffee with the Candidates” social will be held Tuesday, April 15 at the Melfort Legion, starting at 7 pm. Coffee and snacks will be provided.

“We are changing the format a little so that everyone has a chance to get their questions and concerns heard,” explained chamber president Lloyd Muntain. “No speeches, no debates, just a one-on-one evening with the local party candidates.

Muntain urged residents to come out to the event and chat with and hear from the local candidates. Everyone is invited.

He said it’s important for constituents to attend to make sure the candidates understand how the community and surrounding areas feel about the important issues like national and international trade, and how it will affect local businesses and employees. Muntain added you will get a chance to hear more about what the future holds for Saskatchewan compared to the rest of Canada and the world.

“Not only do we want to see our fellow business partners at the event, but also our neighbours and friends from Melfort and surrounding area.”

While it’s unknown how many of the candidates will attend, Muntain said three have indicated their plans to appear at the event.

The Nipawin and District Chamber of Commerce will hold an all-candidates forum the following evening, April 16, at the Nipawin Apostolic Church. That event will begin at 6 p.m. sharp.
