Yorkton-Melville Conservative MP Cathay Wagantall seeks return to Ottawa

Apr 10, 2025 | 4:00 PM

The incumbent MP from Yorkton-Melville is looking forward to the remainder of her campaign.

Cathay Wagantall will attempt to keep the riding in Conservative hands.

She told northeastNOW she’s happy to be campaigning throughout the riding.

“Meeting with folks in coffee meetings, mainstreeting, and just connecting,” said Wagantall. “It’s amazing how many people will just drive up beside me and honk, roll their windows down, and express their support.”

The Yorkton-Melville riding sounds like it’s distant, but it encompasses many local communities including Naicam, Watson, Porcupine Plain, Hudson Bay, and now all the way up past Carrot River and Arborfield. Despite the distance between communities in the constituency, Wagantall said there are many common concerns.

“The cost of living is definitely right up there and mixed in with that is [U.S. President Donald] Trump,” Wagantall said. “I have to say, the feeling is as much around seeing change for the better for Canada and for opportunities as a nation as well as the cost of living.”

Wagantall said there are also concerns about the Chinese tariffs on Canadian canola. She said China created angst and frustration here because of their choice to attack our farmers with retaliatory tariffs based on the federal Liberal government’s electric vehicle tariffs on China.

With less than three weeks remaining in the federal election campaign, Wagantall said she continues to share Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre’s vision for the country with her constituents. She also shares footage of his rallies, showing people here that their votes really do matter.

Wagantall will continue to campaign across the Yorkton-Melville riding until election day April 28. She is hosting a Poilievre watch party at the library in Yorkton tonight, and she will participate in an all-candidates forum in Yorkton April 22.
