U.S. farmers and consumers would suffer if there was a seed oil ban
The American Soybean Association has released a seed oil study that showed a ban would not bode well for of the soy industry and U.S. consumers.
The World Agricultural Economic and Environmental Services (WAEES) examined the impacts of a potential seed oil ban in the U.S. food supply.
The study comes in the wake of comments from Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the U.S. new health secretary, who has said Americans are being “unknowingly poisoned” by seed oils and has called for fast-food restaurants to return to using beef tallow, or rendered animal fat, in their fryers instead.
The seed oil discussion has exasperated nutrition scientists, who say decades of research confirm the health benefits of consuming such oils, especially in place of alternatives such as butter or lard.
