The Hawks have recently signed a goaltender and a forward to Letters of Intent for next year’s Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season, now Nipawin has added a defenseman to the roster.

The club announced Thursday that they have signed 2007-born rearguard Clayton Nesbitt from Calgary. Nipawin Associate General Manager Dana Dirks said Nesbitt got injured during the Circle K Classic U18 tournament in Calgary, but he worked his way back into the Alberta Elite Hockey League championship with the Flames AAA program.

“Not only did he get himself back in the lineup for the league final, but he also looked good,” beamed Dirks. “Solid guy, good skater, uses his body well, great stick in the defensive zone. Clayton’s somebody I think is really going to fit what the coaching staff is looking for in the defensive zone for us at the Cage.”

Nesbitt, 18, played his elite minor hockey for the Flames AAA programs starting in 2021-22 in the AAA U15 ranks. Continuing his development his last season (2024-25), the 6’1″ blueliner scored a pair of goals and added five assists in 21 games. Nesbitt played three postseason games as well in the league championship.
