A man accused of murdering his mother, appeared by video but said nothing when his case took its next step towards trial.

Preliminary inquiry hearing dates for Everett Constant have been set for Oct 27 to 31, 2025 at provincial court. The case that dates back to May 4, 2024, was spoken to Tuesday morning.

On the day of the incident, Prince Albert police attended to a residence in the Unit Block of 28th St. W. for a violent family dispute. Beverly Constant was pronounced deceased at the scene and Everett was arrested soon after and has been in custody ever since.

In the days that followed, police confirmed Everett was first picked up on May 3 and taken to Victoria Hospital for a medical matter.

After being cleared medically, he was arrested and held overnight in PAPS cells and then released the following morning at 10 a.m. He was given a court appearance date for the end of the month on assault charges. This had to do with a hospital staff member.

Sources close to the situation told paNOW that Constant had long struggled with mental health-related issues and had been seeking help with no success.

The purpose of October’s hearing will be determine if the Crown’s evidence is strong enough to commit the case for trial, and also whether the charge of second degree murder best fits the offence.

If the case is committed for trial, Constant has elected to be tried by judge alone at Court of King’s Bench.

Members of the Constant family were present on Tuesday, and have been there for each of the 21 previous times the case was spoken to in court.
