Swing Game

Mustangs set for Game 3 of Finals in Weyburn

Apr 23, 2025 | 2:51 PM

For the first time in this year’s SJHL Finals, the Melfort Mustangs will be playing in enemy territory.

After splitting Games 1 and 2 at home against the Weyburn Red Wings, Melfort has now gone on the road to Weyburn for Games 3 and 4.

Tonight’s contest is a swing game in the series, as the Mustangs could earn home-ice advantage back with a win, or the Red Wings could move halfway to their first cup in 24 years.

“They’re a fast team, they got some good players, and they’re very skilled, so we just got to go out there and play our Melfort Mustangs hockey. It’s worked for the last two series, and it worked in Game 2, so I think if we do that, we’ll be good,” explained Stangs’ forward Kaleb Binner.

The Blue and Green have been a better road team in this year’s playoffs than the Red Wings have been at home, as Melfort is 3 and 1 away from the Palace, while Weyburn have three wins and three losses in their own barn.

Momentum also favours the Mustangs as they won Game 2, in what was a very solid 3-0 shutout victory.

“We don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves, for sure, but we know what we have to do against these guys. These guys are a good team and they’re pretty fast, but we know what we have to do. We want to control them and take what we can get,” Binner added.

Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at Crescent Point Place, with the pregame show scheduled for 6:40 p.m. tonight.

Same time tomorrow for Game 4, as Wednesday and Thursday nights’ contests can be heard on 105CJVR.
