Dry conditions have led to a number of recent grass and brush fires.

The Melfort Fire Department (MFD) was called out to a bush fire early Saturday afternoon.

The department said the strong wind had blown over a tree, and a live power line had started the dry brush on fire.

The fire was small, but the MFD said accessing it was tricky, and they thanked SaskPower for shutting down that power line so they could safely reach the area.

The Wadena Volunteer Fire Department was also busy on the weekend, fighting two fires.

Three units fought a field and bush fire for about two-and-a-half hours on Sunday.

That fire was also caused by the wind pushing a power line down.

The second fire on Sunday was caused by a garbage fire spreading to the grass and threatening nearby houses.

Meanwhile, another local rural municipality has declared a fire ban due to the dry conditions.

The RM of Kelvington No. 366 has implemented a fire ban effective Monday morning at 9 am.
