Canadian students elect Conservative government

If Monday’s election had been up to Canadian high school and elementary students, there would have been a different result.

They would have elected a minority Conservative government.

More than 900,000 students participated in Student Vote Canada which is run by the CIVIX group.

After learning about democracy and elections, researching the parties and platforms, and debating the future of the country, students cast their ballots for the official candidates running in their school’s electoral district.

In Saskatchewan, over 26,000 students took part across 278 schools.

Receiving 48.25 per cent of the vote (12,199), the Conservatives received 12 seats.

The Liberals received 28-per-cent of the vote (5,510) and would have won seats in Regina-Lewvan and Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River which aligns in part with the actual results.

The NDP came third with 4,226 votes.
