BASF Growing Home program supports rural organizations

Apr 30, 2025 | 3:00 PM

BASF Agricultural Solutions Canada (BASF) will distribute $160,000 between 12 organizations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario that provide important services.

BASF established the Growing Home initiative in 2023 to give back to rural communities. Every year, growers nominate the organizations that they believe are most deserving in their community. Then, the public works together to determine the winners.

While the two-week public voting period determined the distribution of the awards amongst the finalists, all 12 organizations will receive support in recognition of their positive contributions to their communities.

Organizations that finish in first place will receive a $25,000 donation and have the opportunity to celebrate their win with the local community; second place will receive $10,000 and third place will receive $5,000.

BASF Vice President Leta LaRush said the enthusiasm and participation in recent years demonstrates how important organizations like these are to their communities

“This year, we expanded our prize fund from $100,000 to $160,000 to recognize each of the finalists, not just the winning organizations, as they are all strong pillars within their communities,” LaRush said. “It’s about celebrating these organizations and contributing to their continued impact in strengthening the communities they serve.”

LaRush said BASF is proud to support local organizations and community initiatives that create long-term growth and success in agricultural communities across Canada.

Alberta

The winning organization in Alberta is the Hussar Agricultural Society. The $25,000 will be invested in long-overdue upgrades to the arena. The Buffalo Coulee Community Hall will receive $10,000. The Eaglesham and District Agricultural Society placed third in Alberta and will get $5,000.

Saskatchewan

PlayFair Daycare in Moosomin, Sask. will use the top prize money to complete the construction of the second daycare centre, bringing 90 new daycare spots to the local community. Little Seedlings Daycare will get $10,000 while the Farm It Forward program will share $5,000 with community groups.

Manitoba

The Boissevain School Parent Advisory Council Playground Committee will transform the existing school playground into an inclusive and accessible outdoor space that can accommodate children of all abilities. Louise Aquatic Centre receives $10,000 and the HERO’s Alliance program gets $5,000.

Ontario

Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation will put the $25,000 prize towards the local hospital’s monumental task of bringing MRI technology to its rural community. Kiwanis Club of Petrolia and Area get $10,000 and $5,000 will go to the Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health.
