
Man sentenced after suspicious vehicle call in Star City in December
A man charged following a report of a suspicious vehicle late last year has been sentenced on several charges.
44-year-old Cory Birtles of the Melfort/Naicam area was charged after a call from a resident of Star City Dec. 6, 2024.
The resident called Melfort RCMP about an unknown vehicle parked in their driveway. Police found a man sleeping in the driver’s seat, and he had several outstanding warrants. During the arrest, officers found evidence of drug trafficking and drug paraphernalia.
Birtles was sentenced on two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of failing to comply with a release order during a court appearance this week. Birtles received a sentence of 1,080 days in jail, and taking time off for time served, he will spend another 861 days behind bars.
