May 2, 2025 | 4:49 PM

Another fire ban has been issued in a local rural municipality.

The RM of Torch River No. 488 issued a fire ban on Friday due to what they called on social media “an extreme fire hazard condition.”

The ban states that “no person shall light, or start or allow or cause to be lighted, ignited or started a fire of any kind whatsoever in the open air.”

Lighting or setting off fireworks is also strictly prohibited, though traditional smokers, propane barbecues, propane-fueled fire pits and briquettes are allowed.

The RM of Arborfield No. 456 also issued a fire ban on Saturday.

The Nipawin Fire Department said on their social media pages that the Regional Park has also decided to institute a fire ban.

“Although there is currently no ban in Town or the RM of Nipawin we remind everyone to use EXTREME caution as conditions are still bone dry out there,” the post read.

The Nipawin Fire Department added they have responded to 4 brush fires this past week.

Many other municipalities across the province jhave also instituted a fire ban.

Greenwater and Porcupine Hills provincial parks, and the Sask. River Forks recreation site are also under a ban.

Fire bans and restrictions can be found here.

There have been 78 fires so far this season, compared to the five-year average of 42.
