Fire bans

More Central Sask. municipalities add fire bans as heat wave continues

May 8, 2025 | 4:07 PM

More municipalities in central Saskatchewan have put fire bans in place as the weather remains hot with wind gusts.

The Resort Village of Candle Lake, the Town of St. Brieux and the Village of Smeaton both added bans to the growing list of municipalities across the central belt of the province that have similar restrictions.

On Monday, the City of Prince Albert added the area north of the river to the ban list but has not, as of publication, put one in for the main part of the city south of the river.

The fire ban applies to Little Red River Park, Hazeldell, Nordale, and all properties east of Little Red River Park to the City Limits at the Pulp Haul Road

During this ban, no open fires are permitted in these areas. However, for cooking and heating purposes, the following are allowed: self-contained heating devices, gas barbecues, and propane fire pits.

The fire ban does not affect recreational use of approved fire pits in designated areas south of the river, such as Kinsmen Park.

Fire bans also remain in effect for the nearby RM’s of Prince Albert, Shellbrook, Garden River and Buckland.

Weather this weekend is expected to remain hot and sunny with a 60 per cent chance of rain on Tuesday.
