For the past 22 years, the Aboriginal Sport Circle has been hosting the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships involving six different teams from around the country, inviting U18 hockey players to compete against each other. This year Team Saskatchewan went to Kamloops, B.C. where they met Team Ontario in the bronze medal game of both the men’s and women’s divisions, and in both games Team Saskatchewan came away with the win.

The men’s team started off with a 5-3 loss to Manitoba to begin the tournament, but they bounced back in a big way in their second game with an 8-2 win over Team Eastern Door and North.

In their third game, the men’s Team Saskatchewan would battle to a 2-2 tie with Ontario. Saskatchewan would take wins in each of their remaining two round robin games; 3-2 over B.C. and 4-3 over Alberta.

With a record of 3-1-1 after the preliminary round, Saskatchewan was sitting third, which got them a spot in the semi-finals. There they would again lose to the eventual champions Manitoba 5-4, and that would send them to the bronze medal game.

In the bronze game, Saskatchewan took a 6-4 win to earn their medal. The team was lead by three players, Jaxon Herchak, Kaleb Dewar, and Hudson Brehaut, who all had eight points across the seven games played.

Team Saskatchewan would finish the preliminary round at 2-2-1, finishing third, and getting a semi finals birth against Manitoba where they would lose a tightly contested 4-3 game.

On to the bronze medal game with a chance at redemption against Ontario, and four different goal scorers would lead Saskatchewan to a 4-2 win and the bronze medal. Danika Dureau finished with nine points, leading Team Saskatchewan and second in tournament scoring.
