Mustangs to face Rockland following two-day break

May 13, 2025 | 10:11 AM

The Melfort Mustangs are set to be in tough on Tuesday morning when they face off against the Rockland Nationals.

Rockland currently holds the top spot in Group B, having not yet lost in regulation.

“We’re feeling awesome, Blevs has us going, and we have our game plan, so we just have to take it from there,” explained forward Ashton Hutchinson.

“We just have to respect them, they’re a good team, all these teams are good teams, so just respect that they’re fast and everybody can play hockey… we just want to stick to our game, be simple, and go north, fast and hard.”

The Mustangs are coming off a two-day break from game action, in which they took a trip to Banff.

The last time Melfort hit the ice was Saturday afternoon, when they took down the Edmundston Blizzard.

The Stangs’ top line, which features Hutchinson, was buzzing during that 5-3 victory, as he and Logan Belton each had a pair of assists, while Zac Somers had a hat trick.

“It was unreal to get that win, a huge game for us, and a huge game from Somers there. Obviously, those three goals were big, and I think we just started talking on the bench and figured it out between the three of us there, and just took off,” Hutchinson added.

“I think it was good to have that bit of a break too, the boys needed it for sure. We went to Banff there for a bit, and we were able to sweat out some stuff on the hike.”

The Blue and Green are set for another noon game on Tuesday. Puck drop will likely occur around 12:08 p.m., with the pregame show set to begin around 11:48 a.m. on 105CJVR.
