Mustangs' 20s

The clutch, veteran, assistant captain: Logan Belton player profile

May 17, 2025 | 4:33 PM

The Melfort Mustangs are in the final four of the Centennial Cup once again, which means their eight 2004-born players only have a maximum of two games left in their junior hockey careers.

The hope is that these last two days will be the best and most memorable times of their lives.

In the case of Logan Belton, he’s been in Melfort his entire Junior A career, spanning the past three seasons.

An assistant captain this year, he’s been clutch for the Mustangs, scoring four times in his team’s four wins over the Weyburn Red Wings in the SJHL Finals.

“It’s been a long ride, but it’s been pretty awesome and fun these last couple of years. It was a great year this year, and I’m glad we get to finish it off here at the Centennia Cup,” said Belton.

“I’m super excited for these last two days, we couldn’t get it finished last year, so I’m looking forward to trying and getting it done this time around. Hopefully, we can bring it home.”

For 169 games, Belton has donned the Blue and Green jersey, producing 142 points in the process.

In just four of those games, which have come at this year’s Centennial Cup, the Winnipeg, Manitoba, native has a goal and five assists, good for six points.

“I heard some good things about Melfort before I came, but it’s nothing compared to what I’ve experienced over the last three years. It’s been incredible, like it’s honestly surreal how good it’s been. I’m so grateful that I chose this place,” Belton added.

“I’m super excited for this final weekend with these guys, there are seven other 20-year-olds that won’t be returning, so we won’t have another opportunity in junior to do something like this. This is a really cool opportunity for us, so I really hope we can make the best of it and make the SJHL and Saskatchewan proud.”

Two wins away now for Belton and his team to capture the organization’s first National Title.
