The Melfort Food Bank has received a generous donation from a well-known charitable organization.

The Melfort Knights of Columbus chapter was on hand Wednesday to present a $3,000 cheque from the organization.

Les Strinholm of the Melfort chapter said they are donating money to food banks and other organizations across the province.

The Knights of Columbus’ Arthur Legatt told northeastNOW what they donate is all through money that has been donated to them, and Ron Holaday said that money is largely from members of the councils.

“It’s really hard to even explain what (the donation) means to us,” said Melfort Food Bank secretary Ellen Zuck. “This is going to help us keep in business for many more months, help us to buy what we need to put into our hampers, to help with our children program…it’s a big help.”

Zuck said the donation is very much appreciated.

The Knights of Columbus organization is involved in many other charitable initiatives across Saskatchewan, including Coats for Kids.

The Melfort Knights of Columbus chapter isn’t done giving to the Melfort Food Bank, as they also plan to replace the roof of the building on Broadway Ave. this year.
