Pre-evacuation alert reissued for Candle Lake as dry weather fuels wildfire

May 25, 2025 | 4:01 PM

The Resort Village of Candle Lake has re-established its pre-evacuation alert.

This comes as the nearby Camp fire is making advancements to the east thanks to the hot, dry, and windy conditions. The dry weather is expected to stick around for the next few days.

“While there is no immediate danger, residents are being advised to stay alert and begin planning for a potential evacuation which could occur on short notice should the situation escalate,” read the notice issued by the village.

Candle Lake Emergency Service is advising that residents:

  • Organize accommodation outside of the Resort Village
  • Ensure vehicles are fueled and ready for travel
  • Prepare an emergency kit which includes: prescription medications, important documents (passports, papers, etc.), computers/laptops, valuables and items that are meaningful to you, personal items (clothing, toiletries, phone chargers, etc.), and supplies for pets

Should the situation escalate, the notice said an evacuation centre will be set up and more details will be provided there. Daily, or more frequent, updates are provided on the Resort Village of Candle Lake Facebook Page and on the village’s website.

The Camp fire is the largest of the uncontained wildfires in the province, burning at 44,000 hectares in size, according to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA). As of Sunday, May 25, there are 19 active fires with eight contained, eight uncontained, two labelled as “ongoing assessment” and one as “protecting values”.
