Annual General Meeting

Hawks host 2025 AGM, optimistic about upcoming season

The Nipawin Hawks hosted their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday evening as they reviewed the 2024/25 season and looked ahead to the 2025/26 campaign.

At the AGM, the Hawks elected their new Board of Governors, with one new addition and one subtraction. The club is still looking for an additional two.

Meanwhile, Rob Nicholas has remained the Team’s President, with Mike Peifer still holding the Vice-President role. The hope is to soon find a treasurer as well.

“We discussed the upcoming year, and we’re pretty optimistic about the upcoming year. So far, we’ve got all of our players coming back, knock on wood, and our coaching staff is all going to be back,” said Nicholas.

“The way we look at it, we were pretty rough at the first part of the year, we were the worst team in the league, but in the second half of the year, we finished fourth overall, and in the last 10 games of the year, we finished one point behind the team that finished second in the country.”

Another piece of the AGM is to view the financials of the organization, with a ‘break-even budget this year’.

Each SJHL team typically runs about a million-dollar budget each season, however, the Hawks run a little bit less than that.

“Thankfully, we have the farming venture, and we have a lot of support from local businesses… we’re hoping that we can sell more season tickets and generate more revenue just from supporting the team, from our local folks here and bringing some excitement by winning some games and being competitive in the league,” Nicholas added.

“It’d be nice to have a long playoff run this year, we’re hopeful that will happen this season.”

The club also updated some of their bylaws to be ‘more consistent with what’s going on in today’s society’.

They hadn’t been touched since 2010, so things are more up to date now, doing some things by telecommunication, which they weren’t able to do before.

The 2025/26 season is more than likely to begin in late September.
