Humboldt gearing up for annual Summer Sizzler next week

An annual tradition returns to Humboldt next week.

Residents and visitors are being invited to the Summer Sizzler, a four-day event at Centennial Park featuring midway rides, entertainment, kids’ activities, and much more.

Event Services Manager for the City of Humboldt Amelia Hillier told northeastNOW the event will kick off with a free concert at Civic Park, hosted by Arts Humboldt.

“I think they’re also doing a barbecue fundraiser,” Hillier said.

The Canuck Amusements Midway begins Friday, June 27 and runs through Sunday. Free family entertainment will be held all three days at the Convention Centre.

Saturday will start with a pancake breakfast at Civic Park, hosted by the Humboldt Soup Kitchen. The Summer Sixzler Parade, hosted by the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID), will start at 9:30. Also being held June 28 will be Humboldt’s Comic Con, Boldt Con, which will take place from 12 to 6 p.m. at the Uniplex.

The Living Skies Music Festival will feature acts like Big Wreck, Wide Mouth Mason, and Captain Tractor on Saturday, and Jade Eagleson, Aaron Goodvin and the Johner Brothers on Sunday, with music starting at 3 p.m. both days.

Hillier said the Summer Sizzler is huge for the city.

“It’s like the main summer event in Humboldt; we get a great turnout every year,” Hillier said.

While the Summer Sizzler is the main draw for those four days, Hillier said it also brings people to the community to see what Humboldt has to offer for shopping, dining, and more.
