PWHL’s Victoire sign Downie-Landry and Flaherty, lose Grant-Mentis to Seattle

MONTREAL — The Montreal Victoire signed forward Jade Downie-Landry and defender Maggie Flaherty on Friday ahead of the upcoming Professional Women’s Hockey League draft.

Downie-Landry joins Montreal on a one-year contract after spending two seasons with the New York Sirens.

The 29-year-old from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., has produced 12 goals and seven assists in 54 PWHL games.

Flaherty, coming off back-to-back Walter Cup titles with the Minnesota Frost, also signed a one-year contract.

The 25-year-old American joins Erin Ambrose, Kati Tabin, Amanda Boulier and recent signee Jessica DiGirolamo on the blue line after Montreal notably lost defenders Cayla Barnes and Anna Wilgren in the expansion process.

Meanwhile, former Victoire forward Mikyla Grant-Mentis is leaving Montreal and joining PWHL Seattle on a two-year deal. The 26-year-old from Brampton, Ont., had three goals and five assists in 30 games last season.

The PWHL draft takes place in Ottawa on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in the league, the Toronto Sceptres signed defender Jess Kondas to a one-year contract.

Kondas, a 25-year-old from Calgary, spent the past two seasons on Toronto’s reserve player list. She made her PWHL debut — and only appearance — on Dec. 27, scoring a goal on her first shot.

The Boston Fleet signed goaltender Abbey Levy as well as defenders Zoe Boyd and Rylind MacKinnon to one-year contracts.

New York re-signed defender Lauren Bernard and forward Kayla Vespa, also on one-year deals.
