Wet weekend in store

Rainfall expected most of the weekend

Jun 20, 2025 | 12:50 PM

Much of Saskatchewan can expect a wet weekend.

Crawford Luke of Environment and Climate Change Canada told northeastNOW some areas will see more precipitation than others to kick off the summer solstice, after what’s been a dry spring.

“We’re definitely looking at a pretty good rainfall event coming pretty much to all of southern and central Saskatchewan,” said Luke.

The highest amount of rain is expected to fall in a line from Kindersley over to an area that includes Melfort, Tisdale, Nipawin, and Hudson Bay.

“It looks like a pretty good swath of rain to a good chunk of the province.”

According to Luke, the rain should start to fall Saturday morning or early in the afternoon. The rain is expected to continue Saturday night through Monday. Rainfall amounts will vary with some areas getting larger amounts with thunderstorms embedded in the low-pressure system.

Much of the northeast can expect around 25 to 50 mm of rain to fall throughout the entire weekend through Monday evening, which is about one to two inches. Parts of western Saskatchewan, including Kindersley, could see upwards of 80 mm of rain during that time.

Prince Albert and North Battleford are closer to the edge of the system and may see a bit less precipitation because of that, though rain is expected during much of the weekend.

Luke said while the rain is expected to fall throughout the weekend in most areas, it may not be consistent.

“You might find there’s actually some breaks in the rain over the course of the weekend,” said Luke. “You might have an hour or two of a break from rain and then it starts raining again for a few hours.”

Temperatures will also stay cool on the weekend, with highs as much as 10 C below normal for this time of year. That won’t last, however, as daytime highs return to the mid to high 20 C range late next week.
