Showers expected to continue

‘Unsettled’ weather continues across province as showers stick around

The wet weather that much of the province received over the weekend could continue over the coming days.

Crawford Luke of Environment and Climate Change Canada told northeastNOW the unsettled conditions are expected to stick around for much of the week, with some showers and sunny periods mixed in.

Luke said the rainfall over the weekend varied across the province, with Melfort receiving about 19.9 mm of rain, or about eight-tenths of an inch. Elsewhere in the northeast, Hudson Bay had 15 mm, while Nipawin got about 13 mm of rain, and much of the rest of the region received between 15 and 20 mm.

The Prince Albert area was on the outer edge of the system, and Luke reported only about 5 mm of rain there throughout the weekend. Luke said areas closer to the Alberta border received the most precipitation, with the North Battleford area coming in at 31 mm.

The same system is slowly moving out of the province but its effects are still being felt primarily in eastern Saskatchewan. Northeast areas, including Melfort, could still get between 5 to 10 mm of rain tonight, while other areas will see showers off-and-on throughout the next 24 hours.

“The back side of that system is still reaching back into eastern Saskatchewan, which is why you see a bit more for the northeast compared to a place like North Battleford,” Luke explained.

Luke said conditions will remain unsettled for much of the week.

“There’s probably going to be a chance of showers most days in the coming week, maybe some thunderstorms at times,” said Luke.

Temperatures should warm up to near-normal values on Wednesday or Thursday at around 22 C or 23 C, and that should stretch into the next week. Luke said the possibility of showers and the unstable weather pattern will be here for the foreseeable future.
