Environment Canada issues Tornado Watch for large portion of Saskatchewan
At 10:24 Saturday morning, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for a large portion of Saskatchewan regarding weather that could cause tornadoes in the region during the afternoon and into the evening.
A low pressure system moving in from the west is giving favourable conditions for the development of funnel clouds.
The area affected stretches from the Alberta border all the way to the Manitoba border, covering communities as far north as Meadow Lake and Nipawin, and as far souther as Kindersley, Davidson, and Canora. That also includes Saskatoon, Prince Albert, the Battlefords, Humboldt, and Melfort.
Right now, the special weather statement is predicting landspout tornadoes that don’t typically cause a lot of damage, but can still be strong enough to topple trees, damage roofs, and toss debris short distances.
