OTTAWA — Veteran forward Claude Giroux has signed a one-year contract extension with the Ottawa Senators.

The contract carries a base salary of US$2 million for next season with bonuses that could reach a maximum value of $4.75 million.

“Claude brings veteran leadership and a competitive edge to our group and has been a consistent presence on and off the ice,” said Ottawa general manager Steve Staios. “We are excited to bring him back next season.”

Giroux had 15 goals and 35 assists in 81 regular season games for the Senators last season. In three seasons with Ottawa, the 37-year-old Giroux has only missed one regular-season game with 71 goals and 122 assists in that 245-game span.
