SIRT investigating RCMP-involved shooting on Flying Dust First Nation

A man is in hospital with serious injuries after Meadow Lake RCMP responded to a call on Flying Dust First Nation on Sunday. The incident ended with an officer shooting their gun.

It happened Sunday, June 29 around 5:30 p.m.. When two officers arrived, they found a man described as having a weapon and “acting aggressively.” No further details were released by RCMP other than to say an officer discharged their firearm, injuring the man. His family was notified, but there was no update on the man’s condition. No officers were injured during the incident.

Now the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) has launched an investigation as is protocol with officer-involved shootings. Meanwhile, the Saskatchewan RCMP General Investigation Section is investigating the circumstances of the initial call for service.
