Jul 4, 2025 | 4:16 PM

A 24-year-old man is facing multiple firearms-related charges after police went to his home for a wellness check.

Île-à-la-Crosse RCMP were called to a home in the community and observed bullet holes in one of the windows when they arrived. As they entered, they saw the man run out of the home with a firearm in his hand.

Officers followed and eventually arrested him and seized the firearm. While at the detachment, the suspect attempted to assault a police officer as he was being transported to the cells.

No injuries were reported.

As a result of further investigation, the 24-year-old man from Île-à-la-Crosse, who was not named, is charged with two counts of mischief under $5,000, and one count each of careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, reckless discharge of a firearm, unlicensed possession of a firearm, unlicensed possession of a loaded restricted firearm, possession of a firearm knowing it was obtained by the commission of an offence, and assaulting a police officer.

He is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on July 7.
