Humboldt, Prince Albert, and Battlefords golfers inside top 5 after day 1 of Junior Golf Championships

Day one of the 2025 Saskatchewan Junior Golf Championships is now complete, with day two currently underway.

Hosted at the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre, the tournament has numerous local players near the top of the leaderboards Wednesday.

Starting with the JR Male Golfers (Back Tees), Prince Albert’s Wyatt Nelson is t-3 after posting an opening round score of 73 (+1). He sits just three strokes back of the leaders, who are currently -2, and is t-2 in the U17 division.

Eight other golfers from P.A., the Battlefords, and Humboldt are in the t-19 to t-62 range in the JR Male Golfers (Back Tees) side.

As for the JR Male Golfers (Front Tees), Humboldt’s Tylan Wallin is third, after shooting an opening round of 79 (+7). He is also third in the U15 division and is currently just four strokes behind the leader of the forward tees.

P.A.’s Emmet McDougall also sits inside the top 10 of the forward tees group after a first round score of 83 (+11), which has him sixth in both the forward tees and U15 group.

Rounding out the top 10 are Humboldt’s Jack Ellis (8th) and P.A.’s Hudson McDougall (10th).

There is one other local golfer inside the top 15 of the boys forward tees group, hailing from the Battlefords.

And finally, on the JR Women Front Tees side, there is one Battleford local who finds herself in second place (five shots behind the lead) after a round one score of 98 (+26). Natalie Maunala is also currently third in the U15 division.

Round 2 of the Junior Women’s Championships will begin at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, while Round 2 of the Men’s Junior Championships began at 7:20 a.m. this morning.
