Fire ban from Alberta to Manitoba borders

SPSA issues sweeping fire ban for northern Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is issuing a fire ban that takes effect on Thursday, July 10 at 8:00 a.m. and will cover a significant area of northern Saskatchewan.

The area described in the release states ‘the area north of the provincial forest boundary, up to the Churchill River’, and it includes provincial parks, provincial recreation sites, and the Northern Saskastchewan Administration District within the boundary.

“The extreme heat we have been experiencing means there is a need for everyone to take precautions and use extreme caution outdoors,” SPSA Vice-President of Operations Steve Roberts said. “Please be cautious if you are using ATVs/UTVs and report a fire if you see one.”

The fire ban includes the use of any outdoor fires including wood fires contained in a pit or campfire BBQ, controlled burn notices that were called in prior to the ban, and fireworks.

There are still 65 active wildfires in the province with 13 of them considered ‘not contained’, and residents of the Resort Subdivision of Lac La Plonge, La Plonge Reserve, Northern Village of Beauval, and Kinoosao are still under evacuation orders.
