With the community evacuated and surrounded by fire, firefighting crews continue to protect the community. In the latest update from the Beavual EOC, it was revealed that the community’s canteen at the Beauval Recreation Grounds was lost, along with some scorched fences, but aside from that, the community at large is still safe.

Beauval Mayor Rick Laliberte addressed the current situation on CIPI Radio’s Facebook page on Saturday. In that report, he detailed where firefighters were working, and provided updates to specific residents about the state of their property.

Laliberte thanked his community for their cooperation in the evacuation process, but also for keeping a vigilant eye from afar through home security cameras.

“Some of you are monitoring smoke and activities along through your cameras. It’s well appreciated. We can respond to that if you call 306-288-1000.”

Further away, Laliberte revealed that the Dore Lake fire that started south of Lac La Plonge has now nearly joined up with the La Plonge fire on the east side of the lake.

Right now the stores in Beauval are all still closed, but work is being done to try and get essential services like food and gas back for the public. Laliberte said that gas is the first priority,

“They do not have gas travelling along the HWY 155, but we may be able to return gas service by tomorrow (Sunday) for people traveling up HWY 155. That road is not closed. You can still drive HWY 155 to Ile-a-le-Crosse, Buffalo, and La Loche.”

Laliberte also said that they have heard from evacuees in Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and he thanked those communities for their hospitality of his community’s people.

Overall, Laliberte’s message to his community was a positive and hopeful one.

“I went to the bush at Sakamayak and lo and behold, Saskatoon berries are ripe. So that’s the good news out there.”
