Death of woman in Beaver River was a homicide

RCMP have confirmed that the death of a 25-year-old woman from Big Island Lake Cree Nation several days ago was a homicide.
Juanita Wahpistikwan’s body was discovered when firefighters responded to a structure fire at a rural property in the R.M. of Beaver River on July 11 at 1:30 pm.
They found Wahpistikwan’s remains, and officers with the RCMP’s Major Crimes unit began investigating.
Investigators would like to talk to anyone who had contact with the victim starting on July 10. People with information can call 310-RCMP or contact officers anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
