Annual parade returns to Melfort on Friday

The annual Melfort Exhibition returns next week, and so does its unofficial kickoff.

The Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce (MTACC) is hosting this year’s parade on Friday, July 18.

This year’s theme is Back to the Future.

“One of our board members came up with it,” said MTACC Executive Director Lorana McComber. “[It] gives many different eras and lots of fun ideas to get creative with their entries.”

There have been over 20 entries so far, and McComber said applications for entries are being accepted until the day of the parade.

“This is a great way to showcase the businesses and for the businesses to have fun as well,” McComber said of the parade. “There is always such a great turn out, so it shows that Melfort and area residents enjoy it as well.”

This year’s parade begins at the east side of the Kerry Vickar Centre (KVC) on Bemister Ave. E. Entrants will then head east to Brunswick St., then turn north to Park Ave. From there they will travel west to Main St., heading south to Burrows Ave. They will then turn west to Manitoba St., ending up in the Northern Lights Palace parking lot.

“I think it’s great that the Melfort Trade Aliance gets to be a part of showcasing all of our great businesses,” said McComber, and the Chamber is excited to host the parade as the exhibition gets underway the same day.

The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the KVC.
