NCHCF purchases new monitors thanks to generous benefactor

Another vital piece of medical equipment is now in Melfort’s hospital thanks to a generous donation.

An anonymous donor paid for two critical monitors for use in the hospital.

North Central Health Care Foundation (NCHCF) board chair Peggy George told northeastNOW they were thankful for the donation.

“We’re always so grateful for any of our donations, but we did have a need for two different heart monitors, the fetal heart monitor and a newborn cardiac monitor,” George said.

The foundation reached out to a past supporter, and they were willing to cover the purchase of both monitors at a cost of over $53,000. The donor wished to remain anonymous.

George said the monitors were very important as there are over 200 babies born a year at Melfort Union Hospital.

“If babies can get a good start, who knows where they can go from there,” George said. “Health is important for everyone but if you’ve got a good start, that’s even better.”

Being able to monitor babies before they arrive and even after they are born is crucial. George said not all pregnancies are easy or without complications. The monitors also allow medical staff to have the best up-to-date equipment at hand when needed.

The work doesn’t stop for the North Central Heath Care Foundation. They are currently updating surgical equipment to a tune of $275,000. George said the equipment has been ordered, but the process is long when factoring in paperwork and approvals.

“We have approved [the purchase] and it has been ordered and that hopefully will cut down on some wait times on some surgeries done in Melfort,” George said.

She added they are always thankful for donations, and the foundation uses the money to the best of their abilities.
