Melfort Exhibition sets Saturday attendance record during successful event

A new attendance record was part of a successful Melfort Exhibition last weekend.

Emily Lacno of the Melfort Ag Society said the fair was a hit, with an attendance record set for Saturday.

“All of the vendors and amenities were able to keep up and ensure everyone had a great time,” Lacno told northeastNOW.

The weather was also a big boon to attendance, according to Lacno. She said after last year’s blistering hot weather and previous years of heavy rain, they couldn’t have asked for better weather on Friday or Saturday. While Sunday was a little cooler and featured a steady drizzle, the heavy downpour waited until the event wrapped up.

“Entertainment all went forward as anticipated, and especially the demo derby was not at all negatively affected by the weather.”

Lacno said they have received largely positive feedback from this year’s event, including many people mentioning that the High Divers consistently put on excellent shows. They were also complimentary of the cleaning crew helping to keep the grounds clean despite the steady attendance.

The grandstand shows, including Motocross Under the Lights, Witchazel, and the demolition derby were also big hits, according to Lacno.

The success of an event like the Melfort Exhibition is a product of the hard work put in by employees and volunteers.

“Most people don’t realize how much work goes into organizing the event and planning for success,” said Lacno. “We only have three employees to supplement a small but dedicated team of volunteers. It is definitely a feat that we are somehow able to balance the many, many things the event demands that most people might not even think about.”

She thanked the event’s sponsors, including platinum sponsors Canadian Tire, Prairie North Co-op, Ripley Ford, Prime Truck Driver Training Ltd., Thomas Motors, Chupa Trucking & Excavating, Doug Folden Gravel Crushing & Hauling, Redhead Equipment, Brandt Agriculture, and Armstrong Trucking & Excavating. Lacno said the sponsors’ generosity allows the event to take place. NEOSS ran the first aid, information, and lost and found centre, and Lacno thanked them for caring for lost children, handing out bandages, and administering more serious first-aid when needed.

The Melfort Ag Society is putting together notes, observations, and comments from this year’s fair to ensure the event is even bigger and better next year. Lacno said many aspects of the fair, including the entertainment, needs to be booked months in advance and it’s important to focus on the 2026 event as quickly as possible.
