Man who was subject of emergency alert charged with attempted murder

The man who was the subject of an emergency alert on Thursday morning is facing a number of charges, including attempted murder with a firearm after an RCMP officer was injured.

Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release on July 25 that 28-year-old Elijah Albert had also been charged with discharging a firearm with intent, uttering threats, and pointing a firearm, and is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on July 30.

The incident on July 24 began when officers responded to a report of an armed person at a home on Muskowekwan First Nation, northeast of Regina, around 2 a.m.

The RCMP officer was shot almost immediately after arriving on the scene and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to an earlier statement from RCMP, Albert ran away on foot and, after first believing he was still in the area, police issued the dangerous person alert just after 6:30 a.m.

Albert was then arrested around 8:50 a.m. after being tracked to “a rural location” near Lestock.
