Cathay Wagantall serving final term as MP for Yorkton-Melville

Jul 28, 2025 | 4:27 PM

A local Member of Parliament has decided not to pursue a fifth term.

Yorkton-Melville MP Cathay Wagantall announced on Monday that the current term in Ottawa will be her last.

“I will continue to represent the wonderful people of Yorkton-Melville until the next federal election is called,” Wagantall said in a statement.

Wagantall said the support she received over the past four elections “has been both sobering and affirming.”

“Over the past 10 years and counting, I have witnessed and shared in a deep, prevailing, and confident hope,” her statement read. “This hope is rooted in the sound common sense, knowledge, wisdom, and relationship-building that flows from the steadfast pillars of faith, freedom, and family that our communities hold dear.”

Wagantall said the sobering aspect referred to what she called the “economic sabotage and unethical, regressive overreach of the Carney-Trudeau government continues to deeply affect Canadians.”

She thanked the veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and members of her staff.

“I am incredibly grateful to my professional, capable, and passionate staff—both past and present—on Parliament Hill and in the Constituency. I know they are the very best because of the constant, positive feedback I receive. I simply could not do justice to my responsibilities without them.”

Wagantall went on to thank her husband, whom she called her best friend. She said he is always by her side in spirit when they are apart. She also thanked her three children, their spouses, and her 10 grandchildren.

Wagantall has served as Yorkton-Melville MP since 2015. The constituency includes local communities such as Carrot River, Arborfield, Naicam, Watson, Hudson Bay, Porcupine Plain, and Kelvington.
