What is normally a beloved hobby for a Swift Current man ended with him fighting for his life in Texas.

According to a GoFundMe organized by his family, Danny Fehr went into anaphylactic shock and cardiac arrest after a rattlesnake bite during a round of golf on July 27 at the Ratliff Ranch Golf Course.

Following the bite, Fehr also coded for over 22 minutes, according to his family.

His wife Stephanie, along with two of their three children, made the long, nearly 24-hour drive to be by Fehr’s side.

He was admitted to the ICU in Odessa, Texas and was heavily sedated when his family arrived.

The GoFundMe page noted that when he was weaned off sedation, Fehr did not wake up.

As of Aug. 10, Fehr had a tracheostomy done and remains in stable but critical condition in the ICU. (Kristie Klimm/GoFundMe)

The hospital conducted an MRI, which showed a severe brain injury, but the family isn’t certain of its full extent.

The GoFundMe was started by Danny’s sister-in-law to help the family deal with the financial strain of the medical expenses involved.

Danny does not have medical insurance in the U.S., and the family said the bills are stacking up.

“With the uncertainty of the future weighing heavy on this family, I’d like to try and get them as much help as I possibly can so they can focus on Danny,” read the GoFundMe.

“Every little bit helps and we are extremely grateful for any support.”

As of Monday morning, the GoFundMe has raised over $25,000 for Fehr and his family. It has a goal of $100,000.
