Putting the fun in fundraising.

The Melfort Food Bank is hosting an interesting fundraiser at Spruce Haven Park on Sept. 6.

‘The Great Inflatable Costume Race’ will pit participants in a race, but most importantly, they will also be collecting pledges for the Melfort Food Bank.

Secretary Ellen Zuck told northeastNOW it will be a fun way to bring in some funds.

“The food bank has been trying to think of ways that we could do a fundraiser that everyone else isn’t doing,” Zuck explained.

With a limited number of volunteers, the food bank wanted to host a fundraiser that was both fun and practical. Zuck said she has a relative who held a similar fundraiser, which was a big success and a blast for both participants and spectators.

“I’ve been thinking about it probably for the past year, year-and-a-half, and this year we decided to give it a whirl and see if we could do it.”

Participants would wear inflatable costumes, like a T-Rex or something similar, and Zuck said it’s amusing to watch. She said about eight or nine teams have already signed up for th event.

To register, you can call the food bank at 306-752-4448, and they suggest you register early as spots are limited.

A barbecue lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m., and the race will start at 1 o’clock. Zuck said spectators are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the food bank.

“We’re hoping a lot of people come to watch because I think it’s going to be very entertaining.”
