The rain may have eased off on Day 12 of the Canada Summer Games, but a fierce wind swept through Newfoundland – a fitting backdrop for a day full of energy and record-breaking performances from Team Saskatchewan.

With competition in full swing across nearly every sport, three new events also launched into action: Wrestling, Mountain Bike Cycling, and Men’s Softball. While the weather couldn’t quite decide what it wanted, Team Sask certainly did, racking up two more bronze medals and keeping multiple squads undefeated in their respective pools.

The moment of the day belonged to Logan Kok, the 19-year-old decathlete from Saskatoon, who capped off his grueling 10-event, two-day campaign with a bronze medal and a new Saskatchewan U20 record of 6259 points in the Men’s Decathlon.

“I knew every second mattered,” said Kok, still catching his breath after the 1500m finale. “It was a battle, but I made it through, and I’m just glad I found that extra gear.”

The University of Saskatchewan Huskie had dominated in sprints, hurdles, and jumps, hovering near the top of the leaderboard before the 1500m which was the event he feared most. What he didn’t know? A medal was within reach.

“I didn’t even realize it was a medal until we finished. I had no idea,” he laughed.

As Kok sprinted down the final stretch, a sea of green-clad Team Sask supporters roared from the stands, not just for him, but also for fellow decathlete Josh Tam, who finished a strong sixth.

“There’s no better feeling. Sure, it’s an individual sport, but winning as part of a team, that’s what’s really special,” Kok said.

Earlier in the day, Lila Stewart added a bronze to Team Sask’s collection with a smooth and composed performance in the Women’s 3m Springboard final. Stewart, who led the preliminaries, delivered when it counted, securing her second medal of the games following Tuesday’s success in Artistic Diving.

Saskatchewan’s Volleyball, Lacrosse, and Softball squads remain undefeated after commanding performances:

  • Women’s Baseball demolished PEI 22-0 and New Brunswick 12-1. One more win against Nova Scotia on Thursday could launch them straight into Saturday’s semifinal.
  • Men’s Lacrosse extended their winning streak, downing Manitoba and New Brunswick with key performances from Kale Kurtz, James Mahissier, and Chase Lehner.
  • Men’s Softball roared back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Alberta 13-5, thanks to a Rayn Ray home run and multi-hit game by Owen Nash.
  • Men’s Volleyball took BC in four sets; Women’s Volleyball swept NB 3-0. Both teams have yet to drop a match.

Other Highlights Across Day 12:

  • Wrestling opened strong with dominant team victories over New Brunswick (men’s) and Nova Scotia (women’s), racking up pins in seven of the women’s ten wins.
  • Mountain Biker Isaac McMurray fought through a challenging course, completing six of seven laps before being pulled. He’ll join a composite team with Yukon for Friday’s relay.
  • Artistic Swimmers Joley Friesen/Sienna Kuchuran and Bronte Cawkwell/Quynn Middelkoop impressed in the prelims, finishing 4th and 8th respectively.
  • Track and Field saw nearly every Saskatchewan athlete advance to finals in 100mH, 200m, 400m, 800m, and more. Special shoutout to Bradyn Giraudier, who led the men’s Special Olympics 200m.

Team Sask’s Medal Count:

Gold – 2
Silver – 3
Bronze – 5
Total – 10
