Former school for lease

Carrot River looking to lease former elementary school

The Town of Carrot River has a unique leasing opportunity.

They are looking to lease parts of the former elementary school in the community.

Community Development Manager Miranda Blaber told northeastNOW the Town received the former school as they had first right of refusal once the North East School Division (NESD) decided to build a new K-12 school in the community.

Blaber said the town had some ideas on what they would like to see in the former school building.

“We would love to see it be a vibrant part of our business community with multiple businesses leasing smaller spaces within the building (or one leasing the entire building) while maintaining public access to the gymnasium,” Blaber explained. “The town remains open to selling should the right proposal be presented.”

The town is open to leasing to a variety of tenants, according to Blaber, provided they align with their strategic plan and adhere to municipal, provincial, and federal laws.

Blaber said having the facility occupied would bolster the community’s economy and lighten the municipality’s expense to operate the building. She added that it would also allow the town to maintain public access to the gymnasium, which is a much-needed community space.

“The building has seven classrooms,” Blaber said. “Lessees lease as many classrooms as they need and have access to powered parking, shared bathrooms, and large entries.” Blaber said the entire building can also be explored as a lease or purchase option, and would include the seven classrooms, a large library space, a small kitchen and staff area, public washrooms, and parking.

According to Blaber, the school is in good shape, and the town is willing to listen to offers. You can call them at 306-768-2515 or via email at t.carrotriver@sasktel.net. Blaber said they have had a few inquiries already and just signed one agreement but did not elaborate. The town would like to fill the spaces quickly, if possible, and would like to see more activity in the former school.
