Challenging harvest conditions in Western Canada
It’s been a mixed bag for Prairie farmers during this year’s harvest season — even within their own fields.
Wheat Growers Association president Gunter Jochum farms wheat, canola, oats and soybeans west of Winnipeg.
He says the quality of the crop has been excellent, but yields have varied field to field depending on where rain showers fell.
Even in regions where the crop is looking good, farmers say the harvest is being overshadowed by trade strife with China and the U-S — Canada’s two biggest agriculture customers.
