An event celebrating diversity in the northeast was a big hit.

Culturama in Melfort was held at the Kerry Vickar Centre on the weekend, and Melfort Museum curator Brenda Mellon told northeastNOW the event saw over 600 people attend.

“We were thrilled with the turnout, and the feedback that we received from the participants and those who attended was really positive,” Mellon said.

The event featured a wide variety of cultural displays, entertainment, many different workshops and activities, and of course delicious food.

Mellon said the representatives at the cultural displays told her many more people stopped by the displays this year than in years past. Displays from many countries were represented, and Mellon said they all indicated they will return for next year’s Culturama.

The event highlights the growing number of cultures represented across the northeast, and Mellon said it’s a big change from when she was growing up in the area.

“It’s really nice to see so many different cultures represented.”

The Culturama committee will be meeting next week to discuss this year’s event, and how it can become even bigger and better in 2026. Mellon said if anyone has thoughts on Culturama this past weekend, or any suggestions for next year’s presentation, they can contact her at the museum. She added the committee is also looking for more members.
