Creig shuts out Mustangs in Yorkton

Oct 19, 2025 | 7:58 PM

The Melfort Mustangs were shut out in Yorkton on Saturday.

Terriers’ netminder Callum Creig made 23 saves, as the Mustangs fell 2-0.

“At times we were really good, and at times we kind of got away from it, and that was probably the difference tonight. We didn’t put together a full 60-minute effort, we didn’t get it done when we had those opportunities, and we weren’t urgent enough at the end there, so that’s the result,” explained Melfort assistant coach Clarke Huxley.

“I think we can always find more; we have to generate more. I think we only had 23 shots, and credit to Craig, he played a really good game, and stopped everything we threw at him, but on our side, we got to find a way to get there, and find a way to make it tough on him, and get traffic. Some of the saves, we made it easy for him, and let him see the puck, so we just got to find a way.”

Part of the offensive problems came as a result of an 0 for 5 power play for the Stangs after going 2 for 3 on the man-advantage on Friday.

Next up for the Blue and Green will be a western swing, when they head to Kindersley to take on the Klippers twice this coming weekend.

“We just got to get the traffic and execute. We had some success on Friday night, at least percentage-wise, so we just got to find a way to execute, and we’ll get back to practice and work on it,” Huxley concluded.

“We got a big road stretch here, but it shouldn’t be an excuse, and it shouldn’t matter; we still have to find ways to win on the road in this league. We definitely can, and I may sound like a broken record, but we just have to put together a full 60. First period, I thought we were really good, and then second period, we got away from it, and that’s the difference in the game. Can’t dig ourselves those holes.”
