Busy lead-up to Halloween in the northeast

There are plenty of fun events for families in the northeast as Halloween approaches.

The Marguerite Riel Centre (MRC) is hosting the Halloween Family Dance Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Kerry Vickar Centre.

Perry Opoonechaw with the Centre told northeastNOW the event will be a lot of fun.

“We’ll have quite a bit of stuff going on, like the live music from 40 oz. Philosophy, we have the 360-photo booth, a couple of prizes for best dressed, the best dancer,” Opoonechaw said.

There will also be a canteen, and raffle draws at the event.

“All of the proceeds that we get, they go back towards our youth programming that we hold during the summer.”

Advance tickets for the dance will be on sale until this Friday at the Marguerite Riel Centre. A family of four can get tickets for $25, with tickets $10 for anyone 13 and over. Kids eight to 12 years old can purchase tickets for $5, and anyone under the age of eight gets in free.

Advance tickets will also get a free entry into a draw for a quilt, and anyone without an advance ticket can purchase tickets for the quilt for $5.

The Marguerite Riel Centre will also be hosting a haunted house at the MRC’s wellness centre on Burrows Ave. W. on Halloween.

The northeast is full of Halloween events over the next week or so.

In Humboldt, Hell’s Half Acre, the Humboldt Festival of Frights is open Thursday, Oct. 23, Friday, Oct. 24, Saturday, Oct. 25, and Thursday, Oct. 30.

The event is put on by the Humboldt Lions Club, starting at 7:30 each night at the Humboldt Vintage Club south of the city on Highway 20. Tickets are $20 per person, with a non-fright day being held Nov. 1 for $5.

The Halloween Spooktacular kids event is coming up Oct. 25 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Tisdale and District Museum. The event features trick-or-treating, mini-golf, a kid-friendly haunted house tour, and concessions. Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.

The Nipawin Legion Hall is sponsoring Spookarama Halloween, featuring music, food, games, and prizes. Students from 11 to 15 years old are invited to the event from 1 to 3 p.m. on Halloween day at the Nipawin Legion Hall.

Spookarama 2.0, a Halloween social sponsored by The Spot Restaurant, is taking place at 300 Evergreen Dr. Oct. 31. It starts at 8:30 p.m, and all ages are welcome until 11 p.m., when it becomes a 19+ event.

The Halloween Family Dance in Crooked River will start at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 at the Community Hall. It’s just $5 to get in, and they are selling hot dogs, chips, and games. Prizes will also be featured.

In Lac Vert, their Family Dance is at 6:30 p.m at the Lac Vert Hall. Admission is free and there will be music, games, dancing, and a bar.

Naicam’s Halloween Howler will start next Friday night at the Town Hall, running from 7:30 p.m until midnight. The event is free and will feature a costume contest, door prizes, and snacks.

The White Fox Harvest Howler is being held Nov. 1 at the Community Hall. It’s dubbed as a ‘family harvest celebration with a Halloween twist’. Tickets at the door at $10 for youth ages 3 to 18, and $20 for adults. There will be music, games and prizes, a cash bar, and a concession. Halloween costumes are not mandatory, but they are encouraged.
