Hawks’ offense sputters in another road loss
The Nipawin Hawks are struggling to find offense on the road leading to another loss away from the Centennial Arena, this time a 3-2 defeat in Humboldt on Friday.
After starting the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season with four wins on the road in their first four games, the Hawks have dropped three in a row scoring just five goals in the process. Nipawin did generate 41 shots on goal against the Broncos at the Elgar Petersen Arena, but Head Coach Tad Kozun said his team lacked consistent opportunities.
“What we did tonight, I call one and done,” Kozun explained on the postgame show on 750 Beach Radio. “We had one opportunity, and they broke the puck out, we come back, have another opportunity, they break the puck out. We didn’t generate enough second and third opportunities.”
Another factor was the Hawks were down early on the road and chased for 56 minutes. SJHL goal scoring leader Jacob Strizzi opened the scoring just four minutes in. Nipawin tied it halfway through the first period on Jaxen Smyth’s first career SJHL goal.
