Mustangs come back multiple times to beat Klippers
A relatively quiet opening 50 minutes on Friday night ended with a 10-minute bang as the Melfort Mustangs downed the Kindersley Klippers.
Kindersley led 2-1 heading into the back half of the third period, before six goals were scored in the final 10 minutes, four of which belonged to the Mustangs.
“I thought we were really good for the most part and played probably as close to 60 minutes as we’ve played in a while. Kindersley was optimistic, when we gave them opportunities, they capitalized, so we just got to tighten those up. When we had our opportunities though, at the end, we buried it, so credit the guys for sticking with it. If we can clean up just a few mistakes, I think it’ll look a lot better,” said assistant coach Clarke Huxley.
“We just kept responding, we were down three separate times in that game, so we had to find a way to come back. It wasn’t ideal that when we got the lead or tied it up, they came back and got the lead, but there was no panic on the bench, nobody was being negative, and the guys were up and right over the boards. The very next shift, guys were getting hard on the puck and grinding it out. The results ultimately came, so it was nice to see the boys get rewarded.”
