Mustangs visit Warman for first meeting in team history

Oct 31, 2025 | 3:08 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will go to a new place Friday night as they face the Warman Wolverines for the first time in team history.

The newly formed Wolverines (formerly the Notre Dame Hounds) are 14 games into their inaugural season and have yet to match up with the Mustangs.

All that will change this weekend, as the two clubs will face one another, once each in their respective barns, for a home-and-home set.

Melfort last played this past weekend when they took three out of a possible four points on the road from the Kindersley Klippers.

While the weekend was an overall success, a late rally from the Klippers on Saturday to steal a point from the Stangs in a shootout ultimately dampened the mood.

“I thought we had a pretty good game and deserved to probably score some more goals, but we didn’t execute when we had those opportunities. With four minutes left, we had the lead, but then we took a penalty, and the puck ended up in the back of our net. We can’t point to that as the sole reason for a loss, but we just have to clean up those little mistakes, because they really add up in the end,” assistant coach Clarke Huxley said regarding last weekend.

“You could say we’ve had a bit of bad luck this year, but when we’re giving other teams opportunities to hurt us, they’re really taking advantage. We know what we have to do, and mistakes happen, but we really have to limit them right now.”

The Blue and Green will now face a Warman team, which is last in the league, with just three wins and eight points through 14 games.

The hope is that a better process, which the Stangs seem to be achieving more lately, will soon consistently lead to the results they try for.

“We talk a lot about process in our room. The results come with the process, and if they don’t come, we’re still keeping our process. We feel like we’re taking a step in the right direction, both defensively and offensively, so we just got to keep building on that this weekend, and stick with that process,” Huxley concluded.
