Wolverines win first-ever matchup with Mustangs

Nov 1, 2025 | 7:27 PM

The Melfort Mustangs had some issues in their first-ever matchup with the Warman Wolverines.

Despite putting 40 shots on net, the Mustangs didn’t really perform to their best and never had the lead.

There was some hope late when they scored a goal with their net empty to get the game back to a one-goal deficit, but Warman responded with a pair of empty netters to put the game away.

“That wasn’t a good game for us, not at all, and everyone knows that’s not the standard we’re gonna hold. The good thing about hockey, though, is that we’re facing them again, so we get another crack at it,” explained assistant coach Clarke Huxley.

“We just gotta put our heads down and go back to work. We got away from that; for a good chunk of the whole game, we just weren’t working hard enough. Pretty simple, they outworked us, they played a really hard game, they frustrated us, and that was the difference. We can’t let that happen again.”

The Stangs and the Wolverines will now play at the Northern Lights Palace tonight to complete the home-and-home set.
