Saying goodbye: Town Office and Civic Centre in Tisdale being demolished

Nov 3, 2025 | 12:00 PM

Demolition of the Tisdale Town Office and Civic Centre is well underway.

The facility has been a fixture on 100 Avenue since 1959.

“For more than 60 years, this building has been more than just offices and meeting rooms. It has been a gathering place where decisions were made, celebrations were held, and ideas were born. It has witnessed generations of community leaders, staff, and residents working together to build the Town we are proud of today,” a post on Tisdale’s social media sites stated.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Lovely Magnaye told northeastNOW demolition began Oct. 29 and was expected to last seven to 10 days. She said all important items in the building were put in a sea can shipping container to be used in the future.

Magnaye said plans for the site, and for any potential town office, have not been determined.

“Council has not discussed what will be the plans for the site,” Magnaye said. “I personally hope that it is where the new town office will be built.”

Town staff were forced to move into the RECplex last fall after mould spore concentrations were found to be above acceptable levels. They will remain there if, and until, a new Town Office is built.

The demolition site is fully fenced off, but Magnaye reminds drivers to be aware of the work being done in the area.

The Town’s social media pages outlined the importance of the former facility.

“Through the years, the Old Town Office and Civic Centre have supported growth in countless ways, from hosting council meetings that shaped the community’s direction to providing a home for public services, community events, and local organizations,” the post read. “It has been a symbol of progress and partnership, helping Tisdale grow from its early roots into a thriving, forward-looking community.”

They asked current and former residents to post pictures on the Town’s social media pages to commemorate the former Town Office and Civic Centre.

“As we bid farewell, we also look ahead with gratitude and excitement, carrying forward the legacy of service, connection, and growth that this building has represented for more than six decades.”
