An Indigenous hockey player from Saskatchewan’s north has surpassed a career milestone in the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Moose Jaw Warriors forward, and Cumberland House’s own, Pavel McKenzie hit the 100 career point mark on Friday, Nov. 7, assisting on Riley Thorpe’s first of two goals against the Saskatoon Blades in a 6-5 win.

McKenzie has since potted a goal to bring his total to 101 career points. This season, the 20-year-old has seven goals and 11 assists in 20 games so far, and at that rate, he’s on pace to break his season high in points of 47 (17G-30A), which he achieved last year.

Currently, he stands fourth in Warriors scoring, one point behind Aiden Ziprick and two points ahead of Ethan Semeniuk.

McKenzie was also a member of the 2024 WHL championship-winning Warriors team that represented the league at the Memorial Cup in Saginaw. During the playoffs that season, the two-way forward potted a pair of goals and three assists in 20 games.

The assist that pushed Pavel McKenzie into triple digits. (@MJWARRIORS/X)
