Hawks seeking win in Melville and consistency

Nov 18, 2025 | 9:16 AM

The Nipawin Hawks are back on the road and radio Tuesday in Melville against the Millionaires.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) club is coming off back-to-back home games which saw Nipawin blank Melfort 3-0 Friday and lose 4-1 to the Battlefords on Saturday during parent-billet weekend. Head Coach Tad Kozun was very pleased with the win over the Mustangs, but not so much for the North Stars result.

“The biggest thing for us is finding the right way to play every game,” Kozun said as the team met at the Centennial Arena to prepare for the day. “On Friday against Melfort we played a complete team game, defended well, and had some opportunistic results. Saturday we may have let parent-billet weekend take away from our concentration. Points are at a premium right now and a win can push you up a few spots in the standings while a loss can set you back. We need to play a consistent game.”

Nipawin has two 3-2 wins over the Millionaires and will make their final trip to Melville already this season. The two clubs recently made a significant trade swapping power forwards, so Kozun expects a spirited contest.

“We know they are a big body club that plays hard and physical. We need to use our speed and get behind the defence of the Mils. We have had success against them and now with the trade we made last week guys should be chomping at the bit to get out there. We expect a hard nosed game, and we need to be ready,” Kozun said.

The Hawks are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games and sit second in the Sherwood Division behind Flin Flon with a game in hand.

Faceoff Tuesday is slated for 7 p.m., the pregame show on 750 Beach Radio will start at 6:45 p.m.
